I am a Christian; I was not brainwashed but taught to follow Jesus Christ. Choosing to believe in the supernatural is not easy for no one has ever seen God and we are only human; “faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1). Our generation has misconceptions of Christianity and religion as a whole due to all the evil that permeates the world. To start off my blog posts on Christianity here is a little Q&A about my faith, which was honsetly difficult to write since I never had to answer these questions before.
Q&A on my faith
1. Why do you believe in God?
Just like family traditions, my faith was also passed onto me from the day that I was born. Although it was passed onto me, I personally had to give my life to Christ through baptism, which is evidence of free will. Life doesn’t make sense without there being a God; “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” (Genesis 1:1-3). Believing in God is assurance of eternal life, “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life” (John 5:24).
2. Who helped you grow closer to God?
Whenever I am asked who is my role model, besides Jesus Christ, I always answer my mom. She truly is immaculate for, “a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised” ( Proverbs 31:30). From the day that she gave birth to me, she has brought me to every sermon, choir practice, prayer night and church event. Watching her be the spiritual leader that she is, motivates me to also become a godly woman. In order to grow closer to God, one must seek Him wholeheartedly, choose to be obedient and have faith.
3. Why do you need God in your life?
I am nothing without God. If it wasn’t for God I would be nothing and have nothing. The struggle of life is real but with God, life is easier. God is a healer and a miraculous God. When you have a personal relationship with God, all your burdens are lifted from your shoulders, He brings mental peace and grants you His favor; “my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19). I need God in my life in order to recieve all the promises that He has for those who follow Him, “and we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose” (Romans 8:28). Life is a mystery and there is incertitude in tomorrow, however with God, I don’t have to worry about life for He is in control; “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope” (Jeremiah 29:11).
4. How do you know that God is real?
God is a spirit, therefore the revelation of God’s existence is found through a spiritual relationship with Him,“but from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find Him, if you search after Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Deuteronomy 4:29). When you seek to find him, He will reveal Himself to you through extraordinary ways and will open your eyes to see a piece of His identity. Those who don’t have a relationship with God can never comprehend His existence because it is a feeling, a feeling that gives you chills and goosebumps through worship and prayer; “The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; His understanding is unsearchable” (Isaiah 40:28). I know that God is real because there are a lot of miracles that I have seen with my own eyes that humans can’t explain nor have any doing, to know that He is a living working God.
5. Where is God when you need Him?
God is found within His word which is in the Bible. The Bible clearly states that, “for everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up what is planted; a time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; a time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-22). In whatever season of life that you find yourself in, know that God is always by your side; “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3). Everything happens for a reason, for God is an intentional God. When you are in a bad season of life know that He will never forsake you, “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand” (Isaiah 41:10). Just call out to the Lord and I promise that He will come through; “for the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations” (Psalm 100:5).
